14 GBARNGA INMATES

About 14 inmates at the Central Prison in Gbarnga, Bong County have “significantly recuperated” having contracted Chickenpox.

Prison officials told the Liberia News Agency Tuesday that they are among 21 inmates hit by the infectious virus that causes itchy-inflamed blisters, raising serious concerns among officials and medical practitioners at the prison.

They explained that the remaining seven are separated from the rest of the inmates while still undergoing treatment.

According to them, the Bong County Health team recently provided drugs to respond to the outbreak and lauded it for curtailing the spread of the disease.

The Gbarnga Central Prison has a detention capacity of 130 persons, but currently there are over 165 inmates at the facility, sources said
