A prominent Liberian citizen has urged the Government and citizens of Liberia to prioritize education in order to ensure the success of the much-publicized “Pro-Poor” Agenda.
The Founder of GATE Africa Incorporated, Mr. Mohammed D. Konneh particularly recommended to the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) led government to invest more in the educational sector if the goals and objectives of the “Pro-Poor” Agenda for Prosperity and Development is to be achieved.
The GATE Africa Founder was speaking recently at program marking the installation of the ‘new queen’ at a community based tutoring center; A. Boakai Darblo Marvelous Study Class.
He asserted that the President and all other officials of government as well as members of the private sector need to get involved in improving the educational sector.
“As the queen is being installed today, let me use this time to call on the government and others citizens of this country to invest in education, especially into such initiative like this. If community based learning center such as the A. Boakai Darblo Study Class is empowered, then we are sure of going somewhere. Some of our parents don’t have huge funding to send their children to the bigger schools, but when they come here after school to add up to what they have learned; then they, too, can now compete. This is why the government and citizens of this country need to place premium on education by supporting initiatives such as these,” he urged.
Konneh, who spoke on the theme: “The importance of female leadership,” among other things, recommended that government and its developmental partners; both local and international, take females’ education very seriously.
Also in remarks, the newly sashed queen, Miss Fatu M. Kanneh, made similar call to government and Liberians to support all educational initiatives such as theirs.
“As a student at this great learning center, I want to call on our government and every citizen of this country to invest more in education, because this is the bedrock to success. Without education, we will be heading nowhere as a country,” Fatu stated.
