The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China near Monrovia, Thursday, April 23, 2020, presented a cheque of Five thousand United States Dollars (US$5,000.00) to the Jewel Starfish Foundation in Monrovia.
Making the donation at the Chinese Embassy in Congo Town, the Embassy’s Acting Political Director Liu-ying said, the donation is a humanitarian aid meant to help less fortunate girls under the tutelage of the Foundation in Liberia.
The amount, according to him, will also empower young girls of the foundation across the country and create awareness on the coronavirus while assuring that China remains a strong development partner to Liberia and will continue to support all sectors of the country.
The Embassy’s Acting Political Director also used the occasion to announce that China through its embassy near Monrovia, will shortly donate huge medical supplies to the Liberian Health sector to accelerate the fight against COVID-19.
He recalled that Liberians have suffered over the period as a result of war, the Ebola crisis and now the COVID-19 global health crisis. As such, China would do all it can to help Liberia and its people.
Receiving the cheque, the Program Director of the Jewel Starfish Foundation, Stephene Audrey Kpoto thanked the Embassy for always coming to the aid of the Foundation. “On behalf of the foundation, I will like to extend our customary appreciation to China and its people for always helping us” .
Madam Kpoto said the relationship between the embassy and the Foundation is well appreciated, adding that the foundation stands ready to work with the embassy to address issues affecting young women in Liberia.
The Jewel Starfish Foundation based in Congo Town, is focused on the empowerment and holistic development of Liberian girls and women across the country.
