Chinese Ambassador accredited to Liberia, Fu Jijun, has paid a courtesy call on Dr Jewel Howard-Taylor, Vice President of Liberia.
The meeting centered on China’s commitment to continued training opportunities for Liberians in various disciplines, with an agenda for improving Liberia’s human development capacity in support of the Government’s Pro-poor Agenda.
A statement from the office of Vice President said that the Ambassador was also keen on the challenges confronting Liberia’s energy sector, stressing that the performance of this sector remains paramount in attracting investors and expanding the private sector.
Ambassador Jijun also extended an invitation to Madam Vice President to attend the 25th Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and the Adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which is a five-year milestone towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The conference is scheduled to take place in 2020, in Beijing, and is expected to bring together women from across the globe.
In her response, Vice President Taylor applauded the Government of China for not only investing in Liberia’s educational sector, but also impacting the country’s infrastructure and energy sectors.
The Vice President also disclosed that power distribution continues to pose a challenge to the energy sector, noting however that the Government is doing everything possible to empower the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) in order to resolve the challenges.
Chief Taylor then thanked the Chinese Ambassador for the invitation to the Women Conference, stressing her role as an advocate for women empowerment for more than 20 years.
