Liberia’s President-elect, George Manneh Weah says the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) presidential ticket which the country’s first female Vice President, Chief Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor will not fail the Liberian people in delivering on their campaign promises.
The incoming Liberian President made the assertion when he spoke Thursday, January 4, 2018 at ceremonies marking the certification of winner from the 2017 Presidential and Legislative elections.
According to Mr. Weah his quest was not to seek the selfish interest of close friends but to work in the interest of Liberia and for the good of Liberians.
President-elected Weah indicated that he has never failed in any task since his days on the football field up to the time he appointed as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador while playing in Italy.
He called on Liberians to unite and put the past behind them for the good of the country.
“The campaign is over. It is now time for us to work together for the good of the country and the people of Liberia,” the former soccer star intimated.
Mr. Weah stated that his visit to the residence of outgoing Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai on New Year’s Day was not for the mere fantasy of making news but an effort to send a message that the elections were over and all hands should be placed on deck to improve the living condition of the citizenry.
“Like the other day, I called my colleagues from the Liberian Senate 19 of whom did not support me during the election to lunch and assured that the time for campaigning was over and it is now time to do the Liberian people’s work,” the President-elected stated.
The CDC ticket won 61.5% of the total 1,189,764 valid votes cast on December 26, 2017.
