Ten qualified players, have been released by the Liberia Chess Federation to participate in the 44th Chess Olympiad, expected to be held in Chennai, India, following the country’s qualification for the event.
The competition is expected to take place from July 28 to August 10.
The ten players include, five males and and five females who will represent the country.
According to a release from the Liberia Chess Federation, players from the male category include current national Champion, Bobby Ballah, Candidate Master, Daniel Kolliemenen, Fidi Master, Barcon Harmon, Joel Ebiekuta and Arnold Smith, while qualified from the female National team are, Abigail Karyah (current champion), Teta Thompson (former champion), Windor Tarplah (former champion), Meleh N. Davis and Princess Banney.
Other members of the Liberian delegation to the competition include Thomas Karyah, President Of the Liberia Chess Federation and FIDE Congress Delegate, Tamba William Saa, Captain of the open session team, Foday Kondoh, Captain of the female team and Thomas Kojo Roulhac, Freedom FM Sports Editor.
The selection of participating players was done based on a five-day qualifier, which was held in the A. Nanuh Manly Memorial Library at the William V.S Tubman High School Campus from May 28 –to June 5, 2022.
During the qualifier, the top four players from the female session joined the current national chess champion, Abigail Karyah to form a team of five players while in what many described as the most competitive open session was decided on the final day of the last game in the final round in which four players joined the current national male champion, Bobby Ballah.
While in India, Liberia will participate in the 44th Chess Congress and General Assembly which is expected to be held from July 31 –to August 9 in which the LCF president, Thomas Karyah will represent the country during the voting process.
