
On July 26 – Liberia’s 176th Independence Day – in Rome, the Italian Republic at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s headquarters for the UN Food Systems Summit Stocktaking Moment convened by the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Gueterres, Liberia’s Minister of Agriculture, Jeanine M. Cooper, requests the the UN for technical assistance to unlock innovative ways for the country’s food systems transformation.
Before 134 countries food systems supremos and a dozen of UN top officials on food systems, Minister Cooper outlined President George M. Weah’s administration tremendous achievements in food systems transformation through financing of producers, processors and farmers in all aspects of the country’s food value chain to expand their productions as well as the creation of centers for women in agriculture and climate.
“For Liberian we have the financial resources, but the technical assistance that will us to navigate new and innovative ways in food systems transformation have been lacking. We are still defining old ways of doing things amidst the new realities”, Minister Cooper said amidst thunderous applause.
The UN Food Systems Hub has assured working with Liberia to remove hurdles in the country’s agri-food systems programs for sustainable pathways.
