Montserrado Is CDC’s Birthplace -President Weah Brags

President George Manneh Weah has reminded supporters of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) that Montserrado County is the’ birthplace’ of the party and, as such, they should not allow the opposition to trample on their ‘birthright’ to rule the county.

The Liberian leader wants partisans of the CDC who are residing in Montserrado County to join forces and elect the two candidates selected by the party to contest the pending Montserrado Senatorial and Representative by-elections.

President Weah made the call at the CDC headquarters in Congo Town, outside Monrovia when the CDC primary Committee presented to the party Paulita Wie and Abu Kamara, as its Senatorial and Representative candidates respectively for the Montserrado County by-elections.

The National Elections Commission (NEC) will on July 2 conduct two by-elections to fill the voids created by the deaths of Montserrado County Senator Geraldine Doe-Sheriff and Adolph A. Lawrence who was Representative of District #15 in the county.

It can be recalled that on February 9, Senator Doe-Sheriff died while seeking medical attention at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana and Representative Lawrence died in a fatal road crash on March 25 along the RIA highway en-route to Monrovia from Grand Bassa County.

President Weah also urged partisans to ensure that the two CDC candidates are elected so that the efforts of the fallen lawmakers who were members of the CDC cannot go in vain.

“I am overwhelmed and happy that the two candidates presented today are people with golden hearts,” President Weah said.

According to him, citizens of Montserrado County as well as partisans of the CDC must show to the world that Montserrado is where the CDC was born, citing that “no other party besides the candidates of the CDC have the right to claim our property.”

He stated that for 12 years members of the opposition were given the chance to work smoothly because they wanted for the people of Liberia to know that the opposition was not the one to create a positive change in the country.

Amidst calls by members of the opposition that the Weah-led government has done nothing to better the lives of the Liberian people since its inception, Weah intoned that the 12 years rule of his predecessor should not be compared to his one-year in office, believing that he has done so much in a short period of time as compared to the regime of former President Sirleaf.
