Amid the unresolved situation at the William V.S. Tubman University (TU) that led to students protesting in demand of the removal of the President of the institution, Dr. Wleh Wilson, the President of the Republic of Liberia George Manneh Weah, on Friday, March 11, 2022 constituted the Board of Trustees of the William V.S Tubman University, the second largest state-run higher institution of learning based in Harper City, Maryland County.
According to a press release issued from the Executive Mansion, Members of the Board include representatives from the County’s Legislative Caucus, Tubman University Alumni, Medicines and Health Sciences, Education, Engineering and Technology, Business and Management, Agriculture and Food sciences, Members of the Public and the President of the University.
Those appointed are Dr. Julius S. Nelson (Chairman), representing the University of Liberia, Senator James P. Biney, representing the Liberian Senate, Representative Isaac Blalu Roland of the House of Representatives, a representative of the TU Alumni Association, Ministry of Health, Liberia Electricity Corporation, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and the President of Tubman University.
The release also includes, the Ministry of Agriculture, Madam Ruth Coker-Collins, Minister of Public Works, Dr. Bill Twehway, Managing Director of the National Port Authority, Eugene Lenn Nagbe, Director General of the Liberia Maritime Authority, Madam Williametta E. Saydee Tarr, Minister of Gender, and Madam Mawine G. Diggs, Minister of Commerce.
The Liberian leader also appointed the ArcelorMittal Liberia and Golden SIFCA (CRC/MOPP) as members while he named himself as Visitor to the University and the Minister of Education as Ex-Officios.
He urged the appointees to justify the confidence reposed in them by serving Tubman University with diligence, commitment, and professionalism.
Meanwhile, the Liberian Chief Executive has directed that the Board of Trustees immediately take hold of the current impasse at Tubman University and report to him with recommendation (s) within ten days and at the same time, President Weah is urging the faculty and students to return to the classrooms in the wake of the protests demanding the removal of the President of the institution, Dr. Wleh Wilson while the Board looks into the matter.
