On the weekend of February 18-19, 2022, the Society For the Conversation of Nature of Liberia held a two-day inception workshop to begin the Liberia Forest Sector Project (LFSP) of the Forestry Development Authority (FDA). The two days event took place in Bopolu City, Gbarpolu County.
According to a press release, the workshop was aimed at bringing participants up to speed with the clarified role and responsibilities of the FDA, other PIEs and members of the RIAT in the project; proposal for livelihood development, social infrastructure, market access, validated with stakeholders and development of indicative work plan shared with stakeholders for feedback.
The workshop marked the launch of the FORESTRY DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY LFSP-NORTH WEST “CLUSTER APPROACH “& KPO MOUNTAIN & FOYA project.
Under the first ProJet, SCNL & IHD signed an agreement to implement “Consulting Services for Intensification and Acceleration of Impacts Forcing on Livelihood Development and Land Use Support to Cluster Communities in the Northwest Landscape” And the second project, SCNL and RSPB signed an agreement to Prepare GAZETTTEMENT packages for Kpo Mountain and Foya proposed protected Areas”.
The inception workshops were meant to present the overview of the project and their provisional workshops to stakeholders; create awareness of the projects and their components among stakeholders/ Participants.
The release further indicated that the North Western Clustered project assignment has five (5) components including: Community Participation; Participatory Land Use Planning & Customary Land Formalization; Livelihood and Social Infrastructure; Market Access and Value chain and Sustainable Forest Management
The duration of this project is 18 months starting January 2022 and concluding June 2023 and will be concentrated in 66 clustered communities in the Northwest in Gbarpolu, Lofa and Grand Cape Mount Counties.
