A health official is admonishing nurses to desist from using cell phones and other electronic devices at health centers while on duty.
Speaking recently at a program marking the third capping and pinning ceremony of the Wisdom School of Health Assistance in Gbarnga, Bong County, the Supervisor for Mental Health, Mr. Diakamu Kollie, said patients look up to nurses for their survival, and they should therefore serve as agents of positive change in providing care for the sick at health centers.
Kollie noted that nurses should come into the medical profession with the aim to provide care for patients, and noted that knowing their responsibilities will enable them (nurses) to perform their duties more professionally for the benefit of both patients and society.
He recognized the importance of technology, but noted that there are disadvantages associated with using it for personal benefit during working hours, than in the interest of critically ill patients who, he noted, are sometimes over-stressed as a result of their health situation.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kollie has observed that care for patients is lacking in the Liberian society, especially in the health system, blaming this on the lack of the nurses’ ability to communicate adequately with their patients.
In a related development, the Head of HIV/AIDS with the Bong County Health Team,
Peter Yarkpawolo, has reiterated his call on community members to do their tests in order to speedily battle the virus if infected.
He assured that results from the tests cannot be exposed as such act is prohibited.
The treatment of HIV, Yarkpawolo disclosed, is free of charge because, according to him, government is providing the medication for the virus which, he said, is no longer a death sentence.
He named Totota, Salala, C.B. Dunbar and Belefahnia, among others, as areas in Bong County where the virus can be treated.
