VP Howard-Taylor Affixes Signature To Amended Act Creating The Tumutu Agriculture and Technical College

The President of the Liberian Senate Chief Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor today March 3, 2020 signed the “Act Repealing the Act Creating the Tumutu Vocational Training Institute to the Tumutu Agriculture and Technical College for onward submission to His Excellency President George Weah.

The proposed Tumutu Agriculture and Technical College is based in Salala District, Bong County.

The bill was introduced and submitted to the Senate by Bong County Senator Dr. Henrique F. Tokpa in September 2019.
Signing the document at her Capitol Building Office Tuesday, Vice President Howard-Taylor termed the passage of the bill as a dream come true while extending special appreciation to Senator Tokpa.

In her official capacity as President of the Senate, Vice President Howard-Taylor said she was affixing her signature to the document which has the greatest potential to positively impact the lives of the Liberian people in the educational sector.

She emphasized that the establishment of the college will not only benefit the people of Bong but adjacent counties.
The Liberian Vice President expressed the hope that the college will give keen attention to the area of agribusiness to help citizens to process and add more value to their crops. “Agribusiness is crucial to the development of the sector and we should ensure the empowerment of many young people in this area”.

Vice President Howard-Taylor stressed the need for trained agriculture professionals to ensure Liberia’s self-sufficiency in agricultural production.

For his part, Senator Tokpa, who accompanied the Secretary of Senate Nanborlor Singbeh to the office of the Vice President, expressed excitement over recent decision by House of Representatives to concur with the Senate in passing the instrument.

When approved by His Excellency President George Weah, the College will grant an Associate of Arts Degree in various fields of discipline including Agriculture, Health and Natural Sciences, Education, Engineering, Business Information and Communication Technology, among others.
