The City Mayor of Liberia’s largest and most populated city, Paynesville, Pam Belcher-Taylor is pleading for more support to clean the densely populated city.
Speaking when she received one caterpillar machine from two donor institutions: the World Bank and European Union on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, Mayor Belcher-Taylor said she has been begging donors and national government to support the Paynesville City Corporation so that they would be able to handle to mountaineering waste management challenge in the commercial suburb.
She indicated that Paynesville City has five districts and the one caterpillar which is the first time that the City Corporation is owning an equipment, is not enough to meet the huge waste challenge that exists.
According to Mayor Belcher-Taylor, the Gogbachop market in the commercial district of Redlight remains a serious garbage challenge because the Liberia Marketing Association is not taking responsibility to clean the market area despite the fact that they are collecting garbage fees from the marketers. “We don’t know where the money go because they are refusing to come to us for partnership that would ensure that the place is cleaned.
